The company has made almost 42 million in revenue and doubled its profits.
The Alicante-based pharmaceutical company Asac Pharma has beaten its turnover record from last year, growing by around 10% thanks to the momentum from its vaccine division and the success of its new products in the medication sector, such as the fentanyl painkiller patches launched in June and its new treatment for gout.
As a result, the conglomerate led by Eliseo Aller recorded a consolidated turnover of 41.9 million euros in 2021, an increase from the 38.2 million recorded the year before. These figures, along with the improvements to management and the changes implemented to streamline the corporate structure, allowed the company to practically double its profits, which came to around 2.4 million euros according to the accounts issued to the Spanish Company Registry.
Among other initiatives, the company decided to integrate its Atache cosmetics division into the company Especialidades Farmacéuticas Centrum SA, and to close the subsidiaries it had in Chile, Paraguay and Colombia, where it moved to a pure export model for distributing its products. But it did maintain its companies in both Mexico and Brazil, whose focus is on the sale of vaccines.
Accordingly, it is important to note that it was the immunology division in particular that achieved the most growth over the past year, recording a turnover of 6.3 million euros, an increase of 23%. The company’s vaccine factory not only produces treatments for allergies, but it also develops bespoke vaccines to combat the most resistant infections. Cosmetics sales dropped slightly, to 1.8 million, with pharmaceutical products achieving the highest turnover, at a total of 33.8 million euros, increasing from the sales of 31.1 million recorded the year before.
The company’s CEO acknowledges that it was “a good year” and also points out that this year they also expect to close the balance sheet with growth “of double digits”.
In terms of geographic areas, sales last year grew most significantly in the Spanish market, where the turnover was around 14.1 million euros, an increase of 26.7%. Whereas sales in the European market held steady, at 598,758 euros. However, the majority of sales came from outside the EU, where Asac achieved a turnover of 27.3 million, an increase of 3%. The company’s largest foreign markets are in Latin America and Morocco, where it has a factory with a local partner. It is also currently reviewing its international expansion plan as one of the markets where it is looking to expand is that of Asia, although it is well aware that it is a very complex area to break into and achieving results there is not easy.
