AEMPS advice on the preservation of medicines in heat waves

• The storage instructions for medicines can always be consulted in the package leaflet.
• Medicinal products to be stored between +2ºC and +8ºC should always be kept in a refrigerator.
• Some pharmaceutical forms such as creams, ointments or suppositories are more sensitive to heat. If their appearance has changed when opened, do not use them.
• Medicines to be stored at no more than 30ºC do not degrade in a heat wave because:
  • Temperatures above 40ºC in Spain are occasional, not constant.
  • The recommended places to store them are cool and dry. In these places the temperature is always lower.
• Medicines should never be stored in boots in direct sunlight.
